1960
Continuing the trend of global expansion that began in the 1950's, Merrill Lynch opens its first office in London.
1961
In pursuit of new markets and clients, Merrill Lynch establishes a presence in Japan and opens an office in Tokyo three years later.
1963
The Winthrop H. Smith Memorial Foundation, Inc. is formed to provide grants and interest-free loans to Merrill Lynch employees in need of financial assistance. Relying solely on contributions from Merrill Lynch employees, the foundation also gives scholarships to children of employees.
1964
With the purchase of C.J. Devine, Merrill Lynch becomes a dealer in fixed income securities.
Merrill Lynch is selected to lead 11 managers in the $100 million public offering of Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT).
