The Financial Realities of Soccer
At the recent Soccerex conference, we talked with Geoff Cameron about the financial lessons he learned as he went from a college star to major league player to “retired” professional.
Now in its 27th year, the main mission of Soccerex is as strong as ever – helping those in the soccer industry learn from each other to build and strengthen soccer operations throughout the world. On November 14-15, 2023, Soccerex was in Miami to connect attendees with industry leaders and to promote strategies to help them navigate key areas impacting their lives. As part of the event, Kevin Walsh, head of the Merrill Sports & Entertainment program, hosted a panel discussion to help explain the financial realities that exist for pro soccer players. He was joined by Geoff Cameron, retired soccer player, who spoke about the life lessons he learned during his playing career and some of the financial strategies soccer players can implement to help make their career earnings last as long as possible.
Walsh and Cameron were also joined by Merrill Private Wealth Advisor Frank Di Rocco of the INFINSE Group, and Merrill Wealth Strategist Michael Duffy, who relayed their experience when working with sports clients and what financial strategies should be considered when planning for the future and how Merrill can help individuals get started today.
